What is Digital Personal Data Protection Bill?
- Digital Personal Data Protection Bill is the Bill introduced in November 2022 in Parliament and the aim of the Bill is to protect the digital personal data of the citizens which is digitally online in the form of data.
- The protection will come in the form of statutory backings which will be included in the provisions of the Bill.
- But the Bill which was introduced in the November 2022 was criticised from whole India.
Reasons for the criticism of Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022:
- The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022 sought to amend the RTI Act and take over the citizens right to know. And this very provision of the Bill bought response from sections of the Indian society.
- Also the 2022 Bill seeks to infringe the privacy of the citizen by provision of sharing information of the citizen without permission of the citizen. And Supreme Court in K.S Puttaswami Judgement Vs. Union of India in 2017 has ruled Right to Privacy as Fundamental Right and it was left upon Government to bring law or regulation to protect the privacy of the citizen.
- Also the 2022 Bill made the board for the digital data and again of whose chairman will be made by central government and removed by the same and again making it draconian for the citizen.
