Untold story of the       Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar was a watch tower whose first storey was used to call for azaan

Built as a Victory Tower, to celebrate the victory of Muhammad Ghori over the Rajput king, Prithviraj Chauhan, in 1192 AD 

Its construction also marked the beginning of Muslim rule in India. It was built using red sandstone and marble. 

Built of red and  buff sandstone and eloquently carved with inscriptional bands, the Qutb  Minar is the tallest masonry tower in India 

On 4 December 1981, the staircase lighting failed. Between 300 and 400 visitors stampeded towards the exit. 45 were killed and some were injured

It is a blend of Indo-Islamic architecture and was built in the memory of Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki, a Sufi saint. 

Qutub Minar was built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of Delhi's last Hindu kingdom. 

The tower was built as a victory monument to celebrate the Muslim dominance over Delhi after the defeat of the last Hindu ruler - Prithviraj Chauhan.
